March is arriving like a lion. . . Literary Events and Updates!

“The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go.”― Dr. Seuss, I Can Read With My Eyes Shut!  (March 2nd- Dr Seuss' Birthday!)

Hard to believe that March is already here!    We have a couple of great events to kick things off; Robert Dugoni on the 4th, and a 3 author event on Sunday the 5th.

Coming soon we have a very special 3rd Saturday workshop and reading with Washington State Poet Laureate Tod Marshall (on the 18th), and our StoryTime for pre-schoolers happens every Wednesday at 11 a.m.

Some of you are aware that we have an in-store Reading Circle Book Club.  It meets the 4th Tuesday of every month and we discuss a book that we have all read.  It’s open to everyone to attend.  So if you have read The Sellout by Paul Beatty, participate in our discussion about it on Tuesday February 28th 7 to 8:30 p.m.   The book we’ll be reading in March isMichael Chabon’s Wonder Boys!  We have copies of it available in the store.

More and more people are discovering Kirkland’s only independent new and used general bookstore.  Some days are busy, others unfortunately are sparse.  Word of mouth is a huge help.  If you are on Facebook or other social media platforms remember to “Like” and ‘follow’ the BookTree Facebook page, share our messages with others when you can, and continue to support your local bookstore.

Thank you to nature-writer Adrienne Ross Scanlan (Turning Homeward) and children’s author Clare Hodgson Meeker (Rhino Rescue!) for a memorable talk and book signing on Sunday, February 26th.    We have autographed copies of their books for sale at the store.

The special Sherman Alexie night at the Kirkland Performance Center (Saturday 2/25) was a lot of fun!  As part of his performance he read a funny, poignant and moving selection from his soon to be published book (about his tumultuous relationship with his mother).   BookTree was there selling several of Sherman’s wonderful books and helping out with the signing(picture is of Sherman and Mary).     Yes, we have some autographed copies of Sherman’s books in the store (limited supply).

Attention: Educators, Teachers, and Home-Schoolers.   We have several copies of A Mindset for Learning: Teaching the Traits of Joyful Independent Growth purchased for a Literary Council & School Event.  They retail for 29.38, but we are selling them below our cost at 19.97 (while they last).  If we return them to our distributor we have to pay a re-stocking fee – so we’d rather sell them to those who might use the excellent book designed to ‘help students discover a mindset for academic success.

Reading Circle -  February 28th The Sellout discussion   and   March 28th Wonderboys meeting.

He’ll be lecturing/teaching on a subject he knows a lot about: Creating Plots For Page Turners and then signing his brand new book: The Trapped Girl (#4 in the Tracy Crosswhite series which is getting the best reviews he’s ever received!
