Your bookshop — the only new and gently-used bookstore in Kirkland has been at 609 Market St for over 7 years. It’s because the community supports this bookstore. Thank you. I hope this continues and the shop can be here for several more years.
Right now there’s a gently-used and collectible book SALE going on. Buy 2 get 1 free Sale. It’s a great time to stock up on books and make sure you’ve got plenty of choices when it’s tea and hot chocolate reading weather. Let everyone near you know about the sale.
On February 3rd — the First Saturday of the month we have several things going on in the store. — First at 2 pm : Author and Local Arts Organization consultant Alan Johnson will be here with his new book, Scene Change!!! Alan Harrison tosses a virtual brick through the window of the nonprofit arts sector, where elitism and social failure have doomed it to near-irrelevance – and offers real techniques to glaze a stronger window for the sector so that it can achieve the kind of impact that will make itself indispensable to its communities — today, tomorrow, and in years to come. Ask him questions, have him autograph his book for you.
Then at 4:24 pm it’s our First Saturday Free Writing Workshop which on Feb 3rd is led by author, poet Suzanne Edison. The Words to Say It: Writing Poems About Illness, Trauma, & Healing-- In this brief workshop we will read poems on the topic and you’ll receive prompts and time to write your own poems.
This is followed by our First Saturday PIE (Poetry is Everything) reading and open mic at 6:15 pm. On Feb 3rd our featured poets are Suzanne Edison and Tamara Kaye Sellman. Anyone can sign up to read a couple poems or a very short prose piece on the open mic. We’ve been having a wonderful time building a community of writers and poets at various stages — published, not published, curious…and some who love to listen to words often very well spoken. The readings are usually over a little after 8 pm. You can read more about it on the event page here or at the Facebook Event Page. Again thanks for sharing our events - word of mouth is important.
Our 2nd Tuesday Reading Circle Book Club is open to everyone who wants to participate. On February 13th at 6:30 pm the book club will gather again and discuss the book: Be Brief and Tell Them Everything by Brad Listi. If you have read the book (or most of it) join us. The book is available for sale at BookTree.
BookTree sales the last 3 months of 2023 were down 12 percent. As many of you already know there is a BookTree GoFund Me campaign. Thank you for letting friends and neighbors know about this. The more people know, the more successful the campaign will be. Here’s a link to BookTree’s GoFundMe campaign. Thank YOU! https://www.gofundme.com/f/booktree-independent-bookstore-fundraiser
Pictured are some members of our Booktree bookclub with Author Alma Garcia who wrote and talked with us about her highly recommended book All That Rises (signed copies available in the store). It’s a real treat when an author can actually join us for BookClub — it happens once or twice a year too!!!
Thanks for patronizing, supporting and talking about BookTree. If you haven’t been to the store in a while, things are better organized then ever before with lots of new signage too!!! Looking forward to helping you find some great new reads to enjoy!
