Market Street Stroll; Writing Workshop, Reading, Open Mic Janee Baugher/Larry Crist

BookTree will have their 1st Saturday Free Writing Workshop and PIE (Poetry is Everything) reading and open mic beginning at 4:22 pm. Award winning Poet Janee Baugher will be leading an informal writing workshop about Ekphrastic Poetry! Learn all about it…. Then at 6:15 pm Writer, Actor, and Poet Larry Crist (Yes, THAT Larry Crist will be in town for a bit) and Janee will do readings followed by an Open Mic! Do NOT miss this.

Janee Baugher Bio: Janée J. Baugher, MFA (public speaker, educator, cross-disciplinary artist). Baugher is the author of The Ekphrastic Writer: Creating Art-Influenced Poetry, Fiction and Nonfiction (McFarland, 2020), as well as two ekphrastic poetry collections, Coördinates of Yes (Ahadada Books, 2010) and The Body’s Physics (Tebot Bach, 2013). Her writing has been published in journals such as Tin House, The Southern Review, The American Journal of Poetry, Nimrod International Journal of Prose and Poetry, Nano Fiction, and The Writer’s Chronicle, and she’s read from her books at the Library of Congress. She holds degrees from Boston University and Eastern Washington University, has attended Bread Loaf Writer’s Conference, and has been awarded residencies at Soaring Gardens (PA), Island Institute of Sitka (AK), Silver Creek Residency (ID), Marble House Project (VT), Dorland Mountain Arts Colony (CA), and the North Cascades Institute (WA). She regularly collaborates with choreographers, dancers, composers, and visual artists, and her work has been adapted for the stage and set to music at University of Cincinnati–Conservatory of Music, Contemporary Dance Theatre in Ohio, Interlochen Center for the Arts, Dance Now! Ensemble in Florida, The Salon at Justice Snow’s in Colorado, Otterbein University, and University of North Carolina-Pembroke. Baugher teaches Creative Writing in Seattle, is currently a submission reader for the literary journal Boulevard.

Larry Crist Bio: Larry Crist has one collection of poems Undertow Overtures ATOM Press, 140 pages, and a second new collection, stories & poems Alibi for the Scapegoat.  

     Larry also acts as well, played Estragon in Waiting for Godot in 2021 @ Synapsis in Eureka as well as his own theatrically adapted long poem TV: The Lost Years at the Exit Theatre in Arcata. And was recently seen both variety show as well as a reading for the Which Way the Wind festival, also @ Synapsis. 

     Larry lives in Trinidad, California where he is caretaker for his 90 year-old mother and previous to this lived in Seattle, (25 years) where he performed in numerous plays and many poetry readings. He misses Seattle immensely. He also lived in London, Chicago, Houston and Philadelphia, where he attended Temple U earning an MFA in theatre. Larry has been widely published and mostly of late in Spread, available free in select establishments around town.
