About the book: No Place to Cry:

When only four years old, Perry Dolan lost his father in World War II. His body was never found, and the family had no place--no marker, no grave--to remember him and honor him. Perry felt abandoned, and even adults added to this feeling, denying him participation in events attended by other children, such as father-son dinner, even though his oldest brother was prepared to stand in for their father.

Often feeling alone and missing the love of a father, Perry made the best of his circumstances. He excelled in swimming events, eventually coaching high school swimming and as a senior-level coach, USA Swimming.

And then at sixty years old, after his mother died, Perry received a box of letters his father had written to his mother and other mementos of his father's life. Eventually, the contents led to Perry discovering details about his father's death, concealed by the US Navy. More important, they revealed the truth--his father had loved him.

No Place to Cry calls for understanding what losing a parent means, especially for young children who cannot express their despair. Step into Perry Dolan's shoes and learn how they see the world and what you can do to ease their path.
